Morning Session (8-11:30) : Legal/Ethical Threat Assessment Considerations for Students with Disabilities.
Objectives
Participants will:
1. Learn critical components to a legally defensible process.
2. Learn strategies that increase equity while decreasing bias and disproportionality
3. Understand the clear distinction, yet complimentary aspects, between threat and suicide risk assessment and special education policies and procedures
4. Discuss IDEA, 504, ADA Title II and special education considerations regarding BTAM
5. Learn best practice guidance regarding parent cooperation, information sharing, discipline, change of programming
6. Review guidance regarding implementation fidelity
Lunch Break 11:30-12:30 : lunch will be provided
Afternoon Session (12:30-3:30) : Case Management & Reintegration Workshop: Supporting Student after Threat Assessment.
Objectives
Participants will:
1. Review foundations of BTAM.
2. Learn strengths-based supports, intervention, and management strategies to effectively manage challenging behaviors while also supporting staff.
3. Learn strategies to support reintegration.
4. Apply skills learned utilizing case studies.
