SUMMARY:OASSN 2026 SPRING SUMMIT
DESCRIPTION:Connecting to the Broader Network…. \nOver the course of several summits\, the Ottawa Area Secure Schools Network (OASSN) has explored strategies to strengthen preparedness and response to school safety and security concerns. While much of the design and development has occurred between summits\, the 2026 Spring Summit intentionally returns to three focus areas initiated in prior sessions to examine how\, collectively\, this work can be advanced and more fully integrated into district planning and day-to-day operations. \nThe three areas of focus include: \nChild Exploitation Guidance A review of definitions and indicators of child exploitation\, new MDE Health Standards\, guiding questions to use if and when concerns arise\, and how to connect students to appropriate community-based resources.  This will be followed by planning time to review district current policies and protocol. \nRegional Crisis Response Team Exploring how a regional crisis response team could be organized and activated\, including how districts would make the call to engage the team as part of an incident response. This work builds on and continues the PRePARE model that emerged from a prior OASSN summit. \nRegional Reunification Centers Continuing planning for regional reunification centers\, including how they would be initiated and operated as part of a coordinated response. \nCome connect with the OASSN network as we explore how districts can effectively engage regional supports in times of need. \n

SUMMARY:OASSN 2025 Fall Summit
DESCRIPTION:Beyond the Bell: Confronting Sextortion & Human Trafficking\nThis year\, the Ottawa Area Secure Schools Network is turning its attention to threats that often occur outside the school day but can still affect school communities. The Fall Summit features two sessions: one on sextortion—covering offender tactics\, prevention tips\, and reporting—and one on human trafficking—explaining recruitment methods\, warning signs\, and local case examples. Both sessions will also promote discussion on how we\, as a network\, may want to address these issues when they intersect with schools.

While the focus is on a regional site\, this same training can be used with district or other local reunification sites\, as well. \n  \nThe Summit will be held in its entirety at Chapel Point Church to provide an immersive experience. The participants will be divided into cohorts and then rotated through each of the following functional stations for training and practice: \n\nGreeting (Students & Parents)\nChecking/Accounting (Students & Parents)\nReunifying Students with Parents\nStudent Assembly Management\nExit Administration\nNotifications & Family Support\nIncident Command & Security\n\n  \nAfterward\, there will be a working lunch with a debriefing session and additional whole-group training. \n  \nPlease join the Summit to make our Reunification efforts better! \n

SUMMARY:OASSN 2024 Fall Summit
DESCRIPTION:How do we get better at Reunification…. \nIn the 2021/2022 academic year\, OASSN began introducing the region to the Standard Reunification Method (SRM) created by the I Luv U Guys Foundation. This culminated with an immersive experience at the 2022 Spring Summit as participants became the students and parents in a mock reunification exercise. Since then\, many districts have embraced the method and have conducted their own exercises thereby gaining valuable experience. Furthermore\, the MSP Office of School Safety has been promoting the SRM and incorporated it into the newly released 2024 EOP framework. The 2024 Fall Summit will return to the theme of reunification to learn how it has evolved and to learn from one another. Also\, we will explore the concept of regional reunification sites that might be utilized in larger scale events. \nThis Summit includes: \n\nJim French (I Luv U Guys) – update on SRM and the Standard Response Protocol (SRP)\, which is also in the new EOP framework.\nRanda Hanes (Office of School Safety) – overview of the new EOP framework.\nReunification Panel Discussion – sharing regional experiences\nOttawa Area Regional Reunification Exploration session.\n\nPlease join the Summit to make our Reunification efforts better! \nNote: OASSN Summits are security and safety training events and are not open to the general public.  Please use the contact page if you have questions.
